FAITH AND WORKS - FIVE CONSIDERATIONS

FAITH AND WORKS -

FIVE CONSIDERATIONS-

by Wm. Henry Cash Jr. 1927 - 2012

                                                   by LILACLADY-JUNEBUG2

FAITH AND WORKS

A Man may be decent, moral, upright and conscientious, and
yet be far from the holiness of God.     A man may toil, and by the sweat
of his brow, produce an offering just as Cain did in Genesis chapter 4.
He may read, pray, and hear sermons, and yet be still
under sin's penalty - waiting for DEATH AND JUDGMENT.

IT IS LIKE WHEN I SIT IN A CHAIR.

Sitting in a chair,

a person has to believe
that chair
is going to hold
that person
securely
safely
and
intact.

THE CHAIR
HAS TO BE
TRUSTED.

I have seen someone
sit in a chair
and
it
fell
underneath him.
it did
not
hold him up.
It failed.

YOU MAY ASK YOURSELF
 THESE FIVE QUESTIONS

Question 1.

CAN WORKS SAVE?

Acts 13.38b,39
Through this man is preached unto you
the forgiveness of sins: and by him all
that believe are justified from all things,
from which you could not be justified by
the law of Moses.
Romans 3.20
Therefore by the deeds of the law there
shall be no flesh justified in his sight: for
by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Romans 3.27
Where is boasting then?  It is excluded.
By what law?  of works? Nay: but by
the law of faith.
Ephesians 2.8,9
For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves: it is the gift
of God: Not of works, lest any man should
boast.

QUESTION 2

WHAT IS SAVING FAITH?

TO HAVE SAVING FAITH
is to
*  Believe the record that God gave of His Son.
I John 5.10 - 12
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself; He that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of His Son.   And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.   He that hath the Son hath life, and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

*Believing with the heart
Romans 10. 9 - 11
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord
Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.   For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.   For the Scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

And he brought him forth abroad, and said,
Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be
able to number them: and he said unto him,
so shall thy seed be.

*Taking God at his word, as Abraham did.
Genesis 15. 6
And he believed in the LORD, and he
counted it to him for righteousness.

*Believing God's Promise, as Abraham did.
Galatians 3.5,6
He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit,
and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by
the works of the law, or
by the hearing of faith?
Even as Abraham believed God,
and it was accounted to him
for righteousness.

*Trusting after he heard.
Ephesians 1.13

In whom you also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise which is the earnest of your redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of His glory.

ABRAHAM'S EXAMPLE FOR US
Hebrews 11. 8  - 13
8. By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, he obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
9. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles (tents) with Isaac and Jacob,
the heirs with him of the promise.
10. For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
11.  Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
12. Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the seashore innumerable.
13. These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

Abraham obeyed, his will surrendered.
Abraham was persuaded, mind convinced.
Abraham embraced God's Word, his heart captivated.

QUESTION 3.

WHAT DOES SAVING FAITH DO?

Luke 8.46 - 48
And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.   And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.   And he said unto her,  Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.

Abraham was in a foreign land,
living in tents, with much people, much good,
and no child.   God gave him a promise
of Sarah to have a child, and even
named the child ISAAC.  His name
means "laughter".   Everytime his name was called, they would remember the J O Y  of having this little boy.

John 5.24
Verily, Verily, I say you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Acts 15. 8, 9
(Peter, addressing the apostles and elders)
And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as He did unto us,  and put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

Galatians 5.6
In Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Ephesians 2.8,9
For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves,
it is the gift of God,
not of works, lest any man should boast

Hebrews 10.39
Now the just shall live by faith: but if any
draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

QUESTION 4

DOES SAVING FAITH MEAN
"LIVING AS YOU PLEASE?"

Titus 2.11 - 14
The grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world, Looking
for that blessed hope and glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people.

[peculiar =  a people for his very own possession]

Romans 8.13, 14
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

I John 5.14,15
And this is the confidence that we have in him,
that, if we ask anything according to his will,
he heareth us; and if we know that
he heareth us, whatsoever we ask, we know that
we have the petitions that we desired of him.

QUESTION 5

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF
GOOD WORKS?

Matthew 16.27
For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels;  and then he shall reward ever man according to his works.

Colossians 3. 22 - 24
Servants, obey in all things your masters
according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: and whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

Revelation 22.12
And, behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

IN SUMMARY

WORKS (WITHOUT FAITH)
Belong to nature and the earth, and
are occupied with the self.

The Focus on Good Works without Faith
is Looking   Inward and downward,
These lead us into darkness
and
turmoil.

Works have to do
with one's
fluctuating
changing
conditions.

FAITH

FAITH
MIGHTY FAITH
THE TRIUMPH SEES
AND LOOKS TO GOD ALONE
LAUGHS AT
IMPOSSIBILITIES
AND
CRIES
IT SHALL BE DONE.

FAITH LOOKS TO GOD ALONE
FAITH LOOKS UPWARD
FAITH LOOKS AWAY FROM SELF
FAITH IF OCCUPIED WITH THE FINISHED
WORK OF CHRIST
LOOKS UPWARD AND OUTWARD
LEADS TO LIGHT AND PEACE.
IT IS BASED ON
GOD'S UNCHANGING WORD.

BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND - SETTING GOALS

BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND  -  SETTING GOALS

                                 BIBLE BUFF JOURNAL - BIBLELADY99CASH

  FOCUS      FOCUS    FOCUS
Jesus said "I will come again, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also."
            John 14.verse 3

In the light of that promise, I muse on the coming year, and
perhaps, yes, even the next five years.    What would I like to see happening ? and what ? would I like to achieve ?

HERE IN THE CLOUDS OF THIS SKY PHOTO TAKEN SOME WHILE AGO I HAD TO FOCUS ON MY CAMERA TO BE ABLE TO TAKE THIS PHOTO.
WHAT DO I WISH TO ACHIEVE ?   I  ASK MYSELF.

HAVE YOU FOCUSED ON WHAT YOU WISH TO DO ?
ON WHAT YOU WISH TO ACHIEVE THIS COMING YEAR?

FOCUS IS NEEDED TO TAKE A GOOD PHOTO.    MY FOCUS MUST CHANGE SO THAT OTHERS WILL SEE ME AS A PERSON FOCUSING ON MAKING SMALL COMMITMENTS AND KEEPING THEM.

QUESTIONS TO ASK MYSELF ARE :

AM I ATTRACTING TO MYSELF THOSE WHO LOVE THE LORD?

AM  I  SHINING  MY  LIGHT ? IN THE DARKNESS ?

THOSE WHO ARE IN DARKNESS WHO MAY BE HUNGRY FOR LIGHT WILL SEE MY LIGHT IF I SHINE AS GOD DIRECTS ME.

Here is a photo of a Lighthouse -  the one called
NUBBLE  at  Cape Neddick  MA.

This was me   June Estelle Donato  in 1938 or 1939.
I was just about five years old, and I visited in Martha's Vineyard and was in the Cape Cod for a visit to see my father's Aunt Sally -  his "mother".     Really his Aunt,  she raised him along with her two -  Betty and Bill -  and yet never did he call her Mother.    He never knew his mother - or his father.

Many questions in my childhood as to unresolved relationships.
However, one thing is for sure.   I early KNEW THAT SOMEHOW SOMEWAY THERE WAS A GOD, AND I WANTED TO KNOW HIM, AND TO WALK IN HIS WAYS.

In my lifetime I have found many changes and much to learn.  God has given me faith in Him, by my discovery of the BIBLE (KJV) and by my discovery that I can trust Him for all my needs.

PHILIPPIANS 4.19  BUT MY GOD SHALL SUPPLY ALL YOUR NEEDS ACCORDING TO HIS RICHES IN GLORY BY CHRIST JESUS.

                    AS THE BUTTERFLY PLANT
- BUDDLEIA - ATTRACTS THE BUTTERFLIES - WE NEED TO ATTRACT THOSE WHO "ARE NIBBLING" AT THE GOSPEL, OF THE GOOD NEWS.
I need to think of ways to
    attract others in my LIFE.
             They are nibbling.
                   but they do not know
                  why they are hungry
                   they just know "they
                   need something or someone
                    more than what they have."

        JOHN 8.12
I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. HE THAT FOLLOWETH ME SHALL NOT WALK IN DARKNESS, BUT SHALL HAVE THE LIGHT OF LIFE.

         MATTHEW 5.16
LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE BEFORE MEN THAT THEY MAY SEE YOUR GOOD WORKS AND GLORIFY YOUR FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN.

           CONSIDER -
1.WE CAN THINK ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN.
   2.  JESUS TALKED ABOUT THINGS THAT THE PEOPLE AMONG WHOM HE LIVED WERE FAMILIAR WITH.
  3.  JESUS WAS ALWAYS AVAILABLE WHEN SOMEONE NEEDED HIM, EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO TIME AT ALL...HE MADE TIME FOR PEOPLE.
 4.  JESUS TOOK TIME TO PRAY WHEN THERE WAS NO TIME AT ALL...HE MADE TIME FOR PRAYER BY USING THE ONLY THING HE HAD WHENEVER HE COULD.
5. WE OUGHT TO BE SPECIFIC IN ASKING THE LORD TO HELP US BE TRULY INTERESTED IN OTHERS.    WE ARE TO BE REAL.
6. WE NEED TO ASK OURSELVES, AM I WILLING TO LET GOD HELP ME, BY BEING SPECIFIC WITH GOD IN PRAYER.

THINK   WIN - WIN

GOD IS SOVEREIGN

GOD IS ABLE.

GOD IS WILLING FOR ANYONE TO COME TO HIM
AND BE SAVED.

MATTHEW 28.18 - 20
AND JESUS CAME AND SPAKE TO THEM,
SAYING, ALL POWER IS GIVEN UNTO ME
IN HEAVEN AND IN EARTH.
GO YE THEREFORE,
AND TEACH ALL NATIONS,
BAPTIZING THEM
IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER,
AND OF THE SON,
AND OF THE HOLY GHOST,
TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE
ALL THINGS WHATSOEVER
I HAVE COMMANDED YOU...
AND LO,
I AM WITH YOU ALWAY,
EVEN UNTO THE END OF THE WORLD.

ALL WE NEED TO DO
IS BE WILLING TO PRESENT HIM CLEARLY
AND PLAINLY TO
ANYONE
WHOEVER
WHOMEVER
ENQUIRES
AND IS SEARCHING
FOR GOD.

THE RESULTS BELONG TO GOD.

ALL GOD ASKS IS OUR AVAILABILITY.

I CAN DO ALL THINGS
THROUGH
CHRIST WHICH STRENGTHENETH ME.
PHILIPPIANS 4.13

WITH GOD,
ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE
LUKE 1.37

AND ALL THINGS,
WHATSOEVER YE SHALL ASK
IN PRAYER,
BELIEVING
YE SHALL RECEIVE.
Matthew 21.22

WHO THEN CAN BE SAVED?
BUT JESUS BEHELD THEM, AND SAID UNTO THEM,
WITH MEN THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE, BUT WITH
GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE....
Matthew 19.25,26

CAPE COD TO BLAINE WA - MY BEGINNINGS

LONG AGO IN THE LATE 1800'S
MY GREAT GRANDPARENTS
HOMESTEADED IN
CAPE COD - IN EASTHAM, MA.

Here they are, in front of their home
in Eastham MA.
Luther Wilbur Brewer and his
wife,  Vida May (Ingalls).

SUCH A MARVELOUS CONNECTION
I HAVE TO MY GREAT GRANDPARENTS

Here is a look at York Beach, Maine.
It is where they moved later on.
I visited this in 1987, and it still looks
very much the same, except the
beach has had building built and more roads.

I am living in Blaine WA
I attend Lighthouse Baptist Church in Birch Bay, WA   My life is here on the western coast of the United States, right close to the border of Canada.
It is a part of me that sees how blessed I am to be by the Sea even as my Grandmother and Grandfather.

THIS IS THE HOME THAT THEY BUILT
IN YORK BEACH, MAINE
In this photo the porch was not finished,
but they did it as they could, and eventually
had a lovely sitting porch.

An old photo that does not do justice
to his fine features.

Here are Bampy and Mamie  (May-mie)
playing Croquet on their property.

Luther was a Leather Tanner in his living,
and they both were active in the
little Methoditst Church there in
York Beach.

They had two daughters
Florence (Flossie)
and
Lillias

Lillias was my grandmother.

on her wedding day.
Taken at York Beach, MAINE

My Grandmother married Forrest Raymond Carpenter
Here he is at that time.   1914.
Somehow, because his father had three sons -
the oldest Bert was in business
the next one  Lester was married
which left Forrest to farm with his father.
So he did not go into the W W.

Here in York Beach, MAine   is the family with
Forrest,  Lillias, Florence and  Mamie (Vida May)
Mamie is on the siting next to Lillias

Here is Lillias May Carpenter

My Father is rich in houses and lands,
He holdeth the wealth of the world in His hands,
Of rubies and diamonds
Of silver and gold,
His coffers are full -
He has riches untold.

I'm a child of the King,  A child of the King,
With Jesus my Savior, I'm a child of the King.

My Father's own Son, the Savior of men,
Once wandered the earth as the poorest of them,
But now He is reigning forever on high,
And will give me a home in heaven by and by.

I once was an outcast, stranger on earth,
A sinner by choice
and an alien by birth...
But I've been adopted, my name's written down
An heir to a mansion,
a robe,
and a crown.

I'm a child of the King,  A child of the King,

With Jesus my Savior, I'm a child of the King.

Since my hip operation of 2016  I have done well
With my walker "Ebenezer"  and my  walking cane "Caleb"
I am enjoying my life in Blaine.

WHERE ARE YOU? - GOD CALLS OUT

GOD'S WORD DECLARES THAT ALL HAVE SINNED

by LILACLADY-JUNEBUG2

Romans 3.verse 23
All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

WHERE ARE YOU ? God was calling.
Adam was hiding.   He knew God had told him not to eat
of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, but he had done it anyway.

Genesis 3.verse 6
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise,  she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also to her husband with her; and he did eat.

                                    Genesis 3.verse 7 - 15
v.7  And the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked: and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
v.8  And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of  the garden.
v.9   And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, WHERE ART THOU?

Now let us look at this for a moment.
The LORD God who made all things
knew exactly what He had made
                                       knew exactly where everything was
knew exactly what His PLAN was.
Remember?   He had given Adam and Eve all the blessings of the things He had made, by giving Adam the authority to rule over it all.   Then He gave Adam a help meet for him - Eve.  They were walking in the Garden  totally unaware they were naked -   they were His creatures, walking in innocence.

             WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

LET US LOOK AT THE CHOICE THEY HAD

The command to Adam was (Gen. 2.16 -17)  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying,  Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat. but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
In the Hebrew it is rendered " dying thou shalt die."

Adam was naked and unashamed, with his wife, before he disobeyed and ate of the fruit.     He had the responsibility to obey.  He had a face to face encounter with the LORD God, but chose to listen to his wife.

When Adam answers, Genesis 3.10, Adam says,
I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.
And he said "Who told thee that thou wast naked?  Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldst not eat?

God is asking Adam to tell him what he did.
God cannot "do" anything for someone until we admit
our sinfulness.     It is a change that Adam and Eve have had: no longer are they covered with the RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD.  Created in the image of God, they have a soul, a spirit, and a personality....and when Adam sinned,  he became a sinner.

God was not taken by surprise.   We must remember God knows exactly our humanity, and we are indeed created by Him, so He knows and understands.   He had it all in His Wisdom and Foreknowledge planned out.

The Bible record tells us that God asks each one
and so, today, we are each accountable.

                    First, the man's excuse was:
the woman that you gave me
to be with me, she gave me of
the tree, and I did eat.

Oh my !    God you gave me more than I
could handle - it is your fault God,
                                        you gave me the woman.

Oh my !   God you gave her to be with me
and she gave me of the tree
                                         and I did eat.

So there it is said.    I ate it.

God then says nothing and goes on to Eve.
"What is this that thou hast done?"

She responds with an excuse also.

                               Her excuse?
"The serpent beguiled me and I did eat."

WHERE THE GULLS CRY - LILACLADY-JUNEBUG2

             WHERE THE GULLS CRY

Walking By the Sea, where the gulls cry

The trains travel by here in Blaine often.   Their tracks are down by the ocean edge, so no one sees the train go by unless they are opposite the bay.   I can watch the train if I walk across the street, and go near to the edge from where I view the train as it passes by.   The regularity of the wheels thumping along can be heard miles before they arrive.   The sound and the thumping begins and by the time the long horn sounds its arrival everyone can tell it is about to arrive.
The gulls are beginning to cry some these days, calling to each other, but they for the most part are clustered in groups in trees and bushes where they stay out of the cold.   There is rain and warmer weather here in Blaine and Birch Bay than in Central Washington.   In Cle Elum and in Roslyn the snow has gone to about 4 feet I understand.    Here, we are with somewhat milder weather, and the birds know it.    I think they are a little confused, because it is so much less colder than it has been.    Perhaps we will have an early Spring?   I do not know.

The Bible says "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the holy is understanding."   Proverbs 9.10   Again, it says in Proverbs 1.23 "Turn ye at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you."
Jesus said, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find;  knock, and it shall be opened unto you."  Like the birds crying to each other, letting each other know they are there, and what they want to do, we are here, and Jesus has told us to Ask, to Seek, and to Knock.

ASK.   To ask first means we need to want to know something, or to have something.   We must therefore, be willing to receive an answer.   Sometimes, I think, some of us are afraid of asking, because we are afraid the Lord will give us an answer different from what we picture.   So, many folk decide that ASKING God for something they can do  on their own  is much better than trusting the Lord for His answer.   Walking by the sea, we can see the tides come in, and the tides go out.   The birds watch for the low tides, because then they can skim over and find lots of delicacies they can feast on.    So too, the low tides of how we feel life is treating us can give us
"feasting" of which would not otherwise be possible.    Proverbs 10.3 tells us "The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish, but he casteth away the substance of the wicked."
Again, it tells us in Proverbs 10.22 "The blessing of the LORD maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow to it."   Proverbs 11.30 "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise."
Walking by the sea,  I know I can view the tides at low and at high levels.   In my life, I am resolved that by the One who Alone is Righteous and Holy, that I will take what my life brings me.   I will ask Him to help me feast even in the scanty times.   I will ask the Heavenly Father to give me a willingness to let Him reprove me in my life, if need be, so that I can discover the joy of what Jesus said when he told the disciples "If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you wish, and it shall be done to you."  John 15.7
