WISDOM - LET NOT MERCY AND TRUTH FORSAKE THEE

WISDOM - LET NOT MERCY AND TRUTH FORSAKE THEE

Proverbs 3.3

THOUGHTS ABOUT GENERATIONS

LILACLADY-JUNEBUG2

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee:
bind them about thy neck; write them upon
the table of thine heart:

This photo shows my husband when he was just a boy.  Taken in 1936,   I was the same age as Margie in this photo.
Somewhere - somehow - I KNEW THERE WAS THIS MAN I WOULD MARRY -  I just KNEW !
Here I was, same age as Marie and in 1936 I was three
years old.   Henry was 9,  his sister Lynn was 8  and brother John was 5.    Henry's Dad - Wm. Henry Cash was a farmer.   He and Mom Cash - Anna - loved their children much.  I owe a lot to their love and still today in the Cash family I see that love continuing.
They left a legacy that still is present in our midst.

Henry and Anna Cash had moved from Arkansas to California when Henry was just a little boy of 2.  It was the year 1929 when they did so.    The times were very hard, and in the hope of finding work, and being able to farm, Henry's father took his wife and son.     His father, Garrett Gibson Cash and his wife Lenora Lee (Akins) followed.   They said they did not want to lose the privilege of seeing their grandson grow up.

As I understand it, Garrett had farmed in Arkansas, and that the "dust bowl" conditions in the area, made him take a serious look at his life.   He followed his son and daughter-in-law to California in 1929.

Here was a photo from those early days in California.

1939   Wm Henry and Anna Maude Cash

Here is Henry's dad in back on the left. Uncle Garrett next to him, with Aunt Nettie next, while Henry's Mother Anna Maude (Sandine) Cash is on the right.    By this time Henry had four siblings plus Uncle Garrett's children are here too.    Imperial Valley at that time was a primitive area, and the work was SHARECROPPING  but it was a living.

The family was very close.   I understand from one of the stories Henry told was that "one time, when the Doctor came to examine Mother for a baby that was due, stated "You are a happy family"  because they seemed to laugh a lot, and enjoy each other's company.

WM. HENRY CASH -OBITUARY

Henry's father was determined to do well.

He had been named by his folks
after an uncle who preached
 the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
 His folks were not
able to attend church much,
but had come to know God through traveling ministers.

His uncle Wm. Henry Cash was one of these who
gave out God's Word in those early days.

When their son was born, they named him after the man who had been a large part of their life - Wm. Henry Cash, hoping their son would be, like him, a preacher of the Gospel.  William Henry Cash was John Cash the singer's great grandfather, and Garrett Gibson Cash's grandfather's brother.    Reuben was William's father, and Reuben had several children - Ray was John Cash the singer's father, so as you can see from the diagram - Roy was Reuben's son who was brother to Ray.     Ray had Garrett Gibson, then Wm. Henry Cash (Sr.) and he had his first son named after him.
My husband Henry had 8 brothers and sisters, of which 1 brother and 5 sisters are still living.   They are
                         Wm. Henry Cash  b 5/26 (25) 1927  d. 6/24/2012
                           Selma Lenore Cash  1928
                           John Cash  1931
                            Margaret Cash  1933
                            Frank Cash  1936
                            Helen Cash  1938
                             Jeanne Cash  1940
                             Richard   b. 1942   (d.)
                             Tom Cash  1943
                             Cheryl Cash   1949

Final thought - Since John and Garrett were first cousins, that made my husband and his siblings "third cousins".    There can be almost 3000 people in a family by the time you come to third cousins.    My children are "fourth cousins."    Franklin Roosevelt married his fourth cousin - Eleanor -  and that is a different story.

This was Garrett Gibson Cash with Lenora Lee (Akins) his wife in 1928.    It looks like it was taken while "for a couple years" the family stayed in Gila New Mexico when little brother John was born.   They went on with their son and two grandsons toward Imperial Valley.    The sharecropping made it possible for them to survive the hard times.

Here is an excerpt I wrote out many years ago about what I found of William Henry Cash, and his forbear, Queen Ada of Scotland.
There are some who speculate that "she" was really not of the Cashes -  but there are those who do trace back to her.   My thought is that "because of the requirement" for INFANT BAPTISM that was given for proof of who she was - that because these folk perhaps did not BELIEVE IN BAPTIZING THEIR INFANTS she was not accepted as the mother of the CASH family.   However, I am sure that as independent as I have found the Scotch-Irish families of the Cashes to be, that this may well have been the case.

There is you see, much to consider in thinking of WISDOM - Let not mercy and truth forsake thee as Proverbs 3.3 tells us.    Over many years - ever since Jesus died on the cross, and rose again, and gave command to the Apostles and disciples to "Go ye therefore into all nations"  (Matthew 28: 18 - 20)  He returned to the Father and is sitting at the Father's Right Hand, and all authority and power and the right to proclaim the Gospel is in our hands.
It is said that "a rose - is a rose - is a rose - is a rose whatever name you may give it."   No matter what you might call a Rose - it does not change what it is, nor how fragrant its smell might be.    It is still a R O S E.
Proverbs tells us in  chapter 1.7 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instruction."   Again, it tells us  "Turn ye at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you." (Ch. 1.23)
In the Collegiate Baptist History Workbook, by James R. Beller, Prairie Fire Press, copyright 2002, I find some interesting things to reflect upon this bit of history that we know about our family.
Whatever it is, I present my thought to you on this.  In the early centuries, persecution came to the Christians because they preached the Old Testament truths as being fulfilled in the Lord Jesus Christ.   Their dependence was on the WRITTEN MASORETIC TEXT of the OLD TESTAMENT.   The only Scriptures they had were of the Old Testament.   As the Holy Spirit gave utterance, they were gifted with each of the New Testament epistles, gospels and in time, the Canon was completed in or about 90 A.D.    The purpose of the sign gifts was to ESTABLISH THE TEXT OF THE NEW TESTAMENT.
During the years since then, it was first the Christians who were persecuted - their books burned - their lives always at risk whenever someone chose Christ as their Savior, and that God's Word was Holy, God-breathed, and Able to comfort and succor them in their heart and life.
These believers have been taunted, harassed, persecuted, and hated for their LOVE OF THE SCRIPTURES and for their ADAMANT REFUSAL TO DENY CHRIST.
How do we find out about these Believers?
The records of those who hated them tell us what they did. The laws that are recorded over the centuries tell us what happened.
All the reasons why they were hated I will give you, but let us first look at the NAMES THAT PEOPLE GAVE THEM.

        65 A.D.    Pudence and Claudia

        120 A.D.    The Vaudois

        150 A.D.   The Novationists.

        170 A.D.   The Montanists.

        311 A.D.    The Donatists.

405 A.D     Patrick and the Patricians

        565  A.D     The Columbans.

        569 A.D.   The Columbanuns.

        660 A.D.    The Paulicians.

        700 A.D.   The Albigenses.

        720 A.D.   The Bogomiis.

    1000 A.D.   The Paterines

         1116 A.D.  The Henricians.

         1126 A.D.   The Petrobrussians.

         1165 A.D.    The Arnoldists.

         1300 A.D.   The Picards.

         1330 A.D.   The Lollards.

          1520 A.D.   The Anabaptists.

Here are the things that each of these groups had in common:

          1.   These Believers all held to the idea that a CHURCH was independent and self ruling, with each pastor or leader - the Bishop - in charge of the flock, and Christ the head of the Church.

           2.  These Believers all held that a Church was to be made up of only Born Again - REGENERATE members.     The Church was to be only of SAVED PEOPLE.

           3.  These Believers all held that only a Believer was to be baptized, and that this was a command to show identification with Christ.   It was not to be done until a person was already saved.

            4.  These Believers all held to baptism by immersion - as an identification of themselves with Christ in his death, burial and resurrection.   It was not a sacrament - it did not save them.   As they were baptized they became a member of that local church wherever they were or happened to be.

THIS MEANT THEY DID NOT BAPTIZE INFANTS.

           5.  These Believers all held THAT EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE TO MAKE THEIR OWN DECISION BEFORE GOD FOR THEIR FAITH.   Whether or not they accept or reject is only with God, not for people to decide for them, nor to force them to make.   They taught that respect should be given to individuals to choose to reject.

    A ROSE IS A ROSE....IS A ROSE....IS A ROSE.

Back to my husband's family - I recognize that in the
day of Queen Ada - it was NOT socially recognized that a person
could BE QUEEN if she was not BAPTIZED PROPERLY AS AN INFANT - that was "the way records were kept"   and so I am saying that I believe S O M E B O D Y had strong faith and kept true to the Lord, and did not BAPTIZE her as a baby - but yet she was the sister of Malcom IV.

To continue -  (Moses) Reuben Cash, who was in the Civil War along with those who lost fighting for the Confederacy.    Sherman's troops stripped and burned his Georgia plantation, so he moved his family farther West, homesteading across the Mississippi in Arkansas when he had a son whom he named William Henry Cash.    This was John Cash's grandfather, and my father-in-law Garrett Gibson Cash's grandfather, so they were first cousins.    When my Grandfather named his son  William Henry Cash, he thought perhaps they would also have a Preacher of the Gospel in the family.
William Henry Cash had been a traveling Preacher to a flock of people who believe the Bible and trusted God for their needs.  He must have been a good example and a comfort to people who had lost everything in the Civil War.      Regardless of the outcome the impact was everywhere.   Life had to begin all over again.   People needed the Lord and they needed the Word of God to help them find direction and faith.

My husband was born to this fine family in 1927, and he became the Preacher that they had longed for in the family.   I met my husband's Grandfather, and I believe he had a simple faith in Christ.    I believe that because of his Grandparent's faith, my husband was influenced in early life, to seek his answers from God's Word, not from people, not from any organization, but from God's Word.

Here my husband was preaching the Word
from the pulpit of Mountain View Bible Church,
Dee, Oregon.

I am certain that WISDOM  - LET NOT MERCY AND TRUTH FORSAKE THEE was for certain on his heart all those years he served the Lord.     I know that he demonstrated to me true love for the Lord Jesus Christ and to all that knew him.

WILL YOU TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE
TO TRUST GOD
AT HIS WORD ?

SEEK GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART
GIVE HIM ALL THAT YOU ARE
TRUST HIM TO BE TO YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED
HE WILL SUPPLY
HE WILL LEAD
HE WILL GUIDE
THROUGH HIS WORD
BY THE DEAR HOLY SPIRIT
TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER
THROUGH THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND HIS
FINISHED WORK ON THE CROSS.

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD
THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON
THAT WHOSOEVER
BELIEVETH ON HIM
SHOULD NOT PERISH
BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.

JOHN 3.16
