       TEXT:   JOHN 1: 19 - 51

1.19 And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him,  Who art thou?1.20 And he confessed, and denied not: but confessed, I am not the Christ. 1.21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias?  And he saith, I am not.  Art thou that prophet? And he answered No.  1.22  Then said they unto him, Who art thou?  that we may give an answer to them that sent us.  What sayest thou of thyself? 1.23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the LORD, as said the prophet Esaias. 1.24 And they which were sent were of the Pharisees. 1.25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet? 1.26 John answered them, saying, I baptize you with water, but there standeth one among you whom ye know not; 1.27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.  1.28 These things were done in Beth-a-bara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. 1.29  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith,  Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world. 1.30 This is he of whom I said,  After me cometh a man which is preferred before me, for he was before me. 1.31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. 1.32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. 1.33  And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. 1.34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. 1.35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; 1.36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! 1.37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 1.38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master) where dwellest thou?  1.39 He saith unto them, Come and See.  They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. 1.40  One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 1.41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. 1.42  And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jo'na, thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. 1.43  The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.  1.44  Now Phil'lip was of Beth-sa'i-da, the city of Andrew and Peter. 1.45 Phil'lip findeth Na-than'a-el, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses of the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Naz'ar-eth, the son of Joseph. 1.46 And Na-than'a-el said unto him,  Can there any good thing come out of Naz'ar-eth? Phil'lip saith unto him, Come and see.   1.47 Jesus saw Na-than'a-el coming to him, and saith of him, Behold, an Is-ra-el-ite indeed, in whom is no guile! 1.48 Na-than'a-el saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and saith unto him,  Before that Phil'lip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. 1.49 Na-than'a-el answered and saith unto him,  Rabbi, thou art the Son of God: thou art the King of Israel. 1.50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou?  thou shalt see greater things than these. 1.51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man."

PROPOSITION:  THAT THE LORD JESUS IS THE LAMB OF GOD SENT FROM GOD TO REDEEM US FROM OUR SIN.

TRANSITION SENTENCE:  WE SHALL CONSIDER JESUS AS THE LAMB OF GOD.

I.  JOHN THE BAPTIST PRESENTS JESUS AS THE LAMB OF GOD.  vs. 19 - 34.
    A. John merely claimed to be a voice proclaiming him. v.19-23.
       1. The WORD existed before the voice proclaimed him.
                    John   1.1,2
1.1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  1.2 The same was in the beginning with God.
2.The voice is simply the vehicle or medium by which
           the word is made known.
       3.  The voice is simply heard - not seen.
       4. The Word endures after the voice is silent.
    B. John baptizes with water, but Jesus was to baptize with
         the Holy Spirit.   v.24 - 34.
        1. John baptized to prepare the way.
        2. John baptized Jesus, presenting him as the Lamb of God,
which taketh away the sin of the world.
        3. Jesus would have been welcomed on the Throne, but He
must first be accepted on the altar.
                Hebrews 10: 12,18
This man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins
forever, sat down on the right hand of God...Now
forever, sat down on the right hand of God...Now               where remission of sin is, there is no more offering                for sin.

                 I Peter 1.18 - 21.
Forasmuch as you know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as  silver and gold, from your vain conversation  received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish, and  without spot; who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world , but was manifest in these last times for you, who by him do believe in God,  that raised  him from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

II.   THE LAMB OF GOD CHOOSES FISHERS OF MEN TO PROCLAIM HIS MESSAGE.  vs. 35 - 51

   A.   Some are converted by hearing the message of the preacher. (John and Andrew), verses  35 - 39.
        1.  John the Baptist pointed to the Lamb of God, vs. 35 - 36.
            a.  Religious leaders of the Lord's day, rejected His message.
           b.   Great crowds - "multitudes"  were attracted and all sorts of men attended to what He said.
          c. But only a few were effected by His message.
       2. John's effect upon two of his disciples.   v.37.
          a.  Some follow Christ merely for what they would get -
                      loaves or healing.
    B.  A few followers followed Him because they felt their
need of Him and were attracted by the perfections of
               His person.  John 1.12.
As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.

       3.  Christ's searching question - The disciple's reply, and communion with Him.  v. 38 - 39.
             a. These disciples were seeking fellowship.
             b. Jesus' discerned that they sought His presence, His
                 person, and His fellowship.
                 I John 1.3,7
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
If we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have
fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.

 C.  SOME FOLLOW and are converted without any human instrument or agency, example of Philip.    v. 43 - 44.
        1. Christ finds and calls Phillip to follow Him.
        2. Our seeking Him is only the reflex action of Christ first
seeking us, just as we love Him because He first loved us.
                 John 6.44
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him; and I will raise him up the last day.

                  I John 4.10 - 12
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.   Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time.  If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

CONCLUSION:
HAVE YOU ACCEPTED THE SON OF GOD?
DO YOU BELIEVE THAT HE IS THE LAMB WHO CAME TO BEAR YOUR SIN, THAT YOU MIGHT BE THE CHILD OF GOD THROUGH HIS NAME.
THOSE OF YOU WHO BELIEVE IN THE SON OF GOD, I CHALLENGE YOU TO BE FAITHFUL IN PRESENTING JESUS AS THE LAMB OF GOD FAITHFULLY.
BEHOLD ! THE LAMB OF GOD WHICH TAKETH AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD.   JOHN 1.29
